Security Safety and Training Specialist

Security, Safety & Training Specialist

Location: St. Gabriel, LA

Position Summary

The Security, Safety & Training Coordinator is responsible for leading site security compliance, safety training programs, and contractor safety oversight in alignment with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and all SSHE (Safety, Security, Health & Environmental) requirements.

This role serves as the primary site contact for security compliance, oversees site security systems and personnel, and drives the development, delivery, and tracking of all SSHE training for employees and contractors. The position also promotes a strong safety culture through training, audits, and engagement initiatives, while partnering with internal teams, external associations, and vendors to continuously improve site safety and compliance programs.

Key Responsibilities

Security Compliance & Oversight

  • Lead compliance with DOT, TSA, DHS, and applicable regulations
  • Manage and enhance site security measures, including:
    • Access control and badging systems
    • Perimeter security and personnel security
    • Handling of regulated materials (shipping, receipt, storage)
    • Security-related training, records, and response readiness
  • Supervise and ensure proper staffing and training of site security guards

SSHE Training Program Management

  • Develop, deliver, and continuously improve SSHE training programs, Monthly safety meetings and safety campaigns.

 

  • Conduct unsafe act/condition audits and observations
  • Coordinate emergency response drills and site preparedness efforts
  • Maintain training records, compliance tracking, and Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Ensure all employees and regular contractors are current on required training
  • Conduct hands-on training, including forklift and manlift certification

Contractor Safety & Oversight

  • Deliver site orientation and SSHE training for short-term contractors
  • Monitor contractor performance through audits and observations
  • Adjust training and requirements to ensure safe work execution

External Engagement & Continuous Improvement

  • Represent the site in local and industry associations (e.g., GBRIA, Safety Council of Southeast Louisiana)
  • Partner with Regulatory, Safety, and Operations teams to identify training needs, and work on the security program implementation & maintenance, status of training, short-term contractor performance, etc
  • Stay current on regulatory changes and training best practices and Ensure site requirements are met for SSHE, audit & observe

 

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Occupational Safety or related field OR 10+ years of experience in a chemical manufacturing or industrial environment
  • “Train-the-Trainer” certification (or ability to obtain) preferred
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, DHS, TSA, and related regulations required
  • Strong training facilitation and curriculum development skills
  • Experience with LMS platforms and training tracking systems
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical training
  • Experience in SSHE, safety, or security roles within manufacturing or industrial environments
  • Proven experience delivering training and leading safety initiatives
  • Experience with contractor safety oversight and site security programs preferred

 

“The compensation for this position will typically range from $89,000-$164,000/yr.  The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity.

The compensation package may also include short- and long-term incentive compensation. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes healthcare coverage, a 401(k)-retirement savings plan, paid company holidays, paid vacation time, paid sick time, parental leave, short- and long-term disability leave, and an employee assistance program.
