HSE Lead - Projects
Location: St. Gabriel, LA
Reports to: HSE Manager
Position Summary
Develop and implement HSE policies, procedures, and standards for the project. Train both company resources and construction contractors working at the project site to meet HSE targets. Drive compliance with company and OSHA requirements through consistent management and personal interaction. Coordinate with contractor HSE resources to manage the requirements for safety meetings, Job Safety Analysis, and safety observations.
Key Responsibilities

HSSE Leadership: Champion Orbia and site HSSE programs; enforce permit-to-work, JSA/JHA, LOTO, confined space, hot work, and lifting/rigging controls. Lead daily toolbox talks and weekly safety meetings; drive observation, near-miss reporting, and corrective action closure.

Drive risk identification, assessment, and reduction with respect to project and construction plans and protocols

Coordinate (with contract partners) and Conduct safety inspections and work area audits, ensuring corrective actions are identified, implemented, and verified.

Ensure full compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, Louisiana, and other applicable federal, state, and local HSE regulations. Communicate any deficiencies to Leadership.

Coordinate HSE requirements for heavy lifts, modular receipts/setting (if applicable), hydro/pneumatic testing, and all other construction activities

Coordinate with contract Safety resources.

Lead and support incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective/preventive actions, including OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.

Develop and coordinate HSE training programs with contract work partners.

Coordinate and implement project environmental compliance requirements such as the Construction SWPPP plan and the proper manifesting and disposal of construction wastes.

Documentation & Reporting: Issue periodic site reports covering HSSE metrics and activities.
COMPLEXITY OF THE JOB

Manage field HSE requirements for company employees and multiple contractors to ensure safety and environmental targets are met.

Coordinate closely with operations, engineering, field construction, and heavy haul teams to ensure that HSE requirements are created, implemented, and adhered to during construction, turnover, and commissioning.
Qualifications
-
Minimum 15 years of industrial HSE experience chemical, petrochemical, construction, or other heavy industries. Or a minimum of 5 years related experience with a degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
Knowledge of safety and health management systems and safe work practices
Knowledge of environmental requirements (stormwater and waste)
Strong ability to identify hazards and recommend mitigation strategies
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Language(s) and level of proficiency: Must be fluent in English
Work Environment
- Primarily field-based role in an active industrial construction site
- Requires extended hours/weekends during critical execution phases
- Ability to walk uneven terrain, climb stairs/ladders, and work outdoors dail
“The compensation for this position will typically range from $89,000-$164,500/yr. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity.
The compensation package may also include short- and long-term incentive compensation. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes healthcare coverage, a 401(k)-retirement savings plan, paid company holidays, paid vacation time, paid sick time, parental leave, short- and long-term disability leave, and an employee assistance program.
