Reports to:  Application Lab Engineering Manager (primary)/ Applications Director (secondary)

  1. MAIN PURPOSE (Briefly state the job's overall objective)

 

The Principal Engineer (MAC) is tasked with developing solutions, equipment, fluids directed toward the automotive HVAC and Vehicle Thermal Management market.  This role requires vast experience in refrigerant testing,  knowledge on how current and future vehicle designs will evolve HVAC systems, and an understanding of related support equipment and materials.   The Engineer will also lead the commissioning of the test cells, working concurrenly and overseeting testing by technical engineering staff, and certifying of the accuracy of all testing perfromed in the laboratory meets all relavent standards.  The Engineer shall then work iwth the Applications Director in preparing customer presentations, presenting data and supporting all technical efforts.

 

The Principal Engineer will also lead SAE Activitives including SAE Standards development, Cooperative Research Programs (CRPs) and other activities towards leading Koura refrigerant solutions.

 

 

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Briefly description of the most important aspects of the job; no more than 10)

 

Collaboration & Testing Protocols: 

  • This is an advanced technical skills role, the Engineer shall collaborate with the lab team to develop testing protocols for new refrigerants in automotive systems as well as identify methods of improvement and advancement in testing protocols, be able to generate a testing plan from initial problem statement and support specific customer requests.
  • Safely is our license to operated.  A Principal Engineer shall take ownership in developing safe work practices as experimental activities may generate undesirable hazardous product or be conducted at extreme pressure levels.  This is fundamental research and a safety mindset is a minimum requirement.
  • Conduct experiments with good laboratory practices (GLP)

 

Continuous Learning & Development: 

  • The Engineer is a growth position, they shall stay updated on advancements in refrigerant technology, Standards, market movements and regulatory hurtles. 
  • Maintain participation on SAE Standards and CRP activities

 

Leadership: 

  • The Principal Engineer position is a leadership position inside Koura’s Application’s Application Laboratory.  Candidates must show project/program or people leadership of other engineers and technicians.
  • The Engineer must show leadership in the professional community and have authored or presented technical articles or presentations.  The position will require publication of at least one (1) technical paper, publication or presentation at an relevant industry conference/magazine/journal per year.

  • Understanding of measurement techniques.
  • Precision mindset – must follow standards and standard laboratory work practices.
  • Understanding of thermodynamics and heat exchanger systems
  • Advanced modeling or simulation experience
  • Excellent presentation skills

 

 

  1. EDUCATION REQUIRED
  • Chemical or Mechanical Engineering Degree
  • 15+ years’ experience allowed in lieu of Bachelors degree

 

 

  1. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

 

  • 10+ years engineering/science experience
  • Technically advanced/superior level position

 

 

“The compensation for this position will typically range from $102,000 - 166,000/yr.  The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity.
 
The compensation package may also include short and long-term incentive compensation. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes healthcare coverage, a 401(k) retirement savings plan, paid company holidays, paid vacation time, paid sick time, parental leave, short- and long-term disability leave, and an employee assistance program.
