Process Control Engineer

Based in St. Gabriel, LA, the Process Control Engineer provides first-line process technical support to the plant operations’ control systems (DCS, PLC & SIS) to ensure safe and efficient operation.  The process control engineer is responsible for identifying and implementing improvements to the process controls, ensuring that changes are compliant with Koura procedures and governmental regulations.

 

Principal Responsibilities

  • Provide process design support and troubleshooting analysis for production areas.
  • Initiate suggestions for plant improvements with respect to process to improve safety, capacity and/or cost.
  • Conducts engineering studies and evaluates new equipment.
  • Provides technical input for safety reviews and HAZOPs.
  • Designs and sizes new instrumentation and control systems
  • Investigates and develops tests to optimize process conditions.
  • Provides technical support during outages and catalyst changes
  • Provides out-of-hours call-out coverage

Special Skills

  • Chemical Engineering, instrumentation and control systems knowledge.
  • Ability to perform standard chemical engineering calculations, e.g., fluid flow, pressure drop in piping. relief valve sizing, rupture disc sizing, distillation calculations, reaction calculations, material and energy balance calculations, physical property calculations, and heat exchanger sizing calculations, as they pertain to control systems.
  • Proficient in control system hardware and software for DCSs, SISs and PLCs (specifically Honeywell Experion, Triconex and Rockwell)
  • The position is responsible with providing a highly hazardous production area with technically sound advice and possessing ability to provide basic engineering designs. Must be able to communicate effectively to all departments and all levels.

 

Education / Experience

  • B.S. Chemical Engineering
  • General knowledge of basic hardware and software and uses of a variety of different computer operating systems such as Microsoft Office Work, Excel, Outlook,
  • Knowledge in Process Hazards Analysis (PHA), and Safeguarding
  • Knowledge in Safety Instrumented Systems (SISs), including ISA-84 requirements and SIL calculations
  • Knowledge in the configuration, support and troubleshooting of control systems (DCS, SIS & PLC)
