Main Purpose and Responsibilities

  • The I/E Engineer (IEE) is part of the St. Gabriel engineering team.  The IEE will be the main source of technical expertise for all levels of the organization of Instrument/Electrical issues.
  • The plant is computer controlled, it has 1,300 instruments, with over 50 nuclear sources.  All instruments operate in high hazard and corrosive environment.
  • The site receives electrical power at 138kV and distributes at 13.8kV, with some 2.4kV motors.  The annual power consumption is about 5MVA.
  • Be the 'product owner' responsible for developing, collaborating, prioritizing and implementing a global client services vision using agile, iterative practices and delivery.
  • Develop and implement digital workplace technology strategies and roadmaps in collaboration with other information technology teams, business partners and vendors to support and secure devices and services in a complex global environment from production plants to office settings.
  • Own and transform the Service desk capability & systems via self-service and modern information technology service management strategy, guiding the transformation from reactive incidents to proactive, predictive signals.
  • Own the unified collaboration and communication capability, driving adoption, upskilling and productivity.
  • The IEE is responsible for all aspects of the instrument and electrical system.  Responsibility for ensuring the site meets all relevant company and statutory requirements.  The position is formally the responsible person for all areas of instrument and electrical, as required in the SHE and Group Engineering Procedures.  Systems design and auditing will be a key part of the job.
  • The IEE works very closely with both the Production Team and Technical Team to ensure reliability and continuous improvement of the I/E system takes place.  The economic impact of plant availability is high.  Although the operating and maintenance technicians do not report directly to the IEE, they will receive much of their guidance from this position.

 

  • Plant in-line analysis is a key aspect of the position.  The plant is critically dependent on analysis, from pH measurement in challenging situations to state-of-the-art Infra-Red analysis.  To maintain these systems successfully the IEE will need to ensure good networking with other Fluorochemical plants in the UK and Japan and with specialists within and outside the company.

The IEE will manage all site minor projects, using on- and off-site resources to provide multi-disciplined designs.  Control and monitoring of project costs will an important element of the role and there is potential to achieve significant savings.  The individual will also be responsible for the construction of these projects:  the construction supervisor will respond to the IEE.

Knowledge

  • Well-developed leadership skills: the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience dealing with vendors at senior level.
  • Highly developed problem solving and mathematical skills.

 

Education/Experience

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • At least 5 years as an I/E Engineer in a petrochemical environment
  • Maintenance and testing of safety shutdown systems
  • Maintenance and testing of high voltage electrical equipment
  • Preferred experiences include the use and programming of Distributed Control Systems
  • and at least 5 years in design in a petrochemical environment.
