Koura, an Orbia business is hiring for an Environmental Engineer.
Based in St Gabriel, Louisiana.

 The Environmental Engineer will support compliance with environmental rules and regulations by developing and maintaining programs and systems required by State and Federal regulatory agencies including, but not limited to the US Environmental Protection Agency and Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  

  • Compliance ownership for programs under the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and other regulations.
  • Prepare environmental compliance reports, such as Tier II, Annual Waste Summary, Toxic Release Inventory, Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs), Annual Greenhouse Gas Reporting, HFC Reporting, etc.
  • Conduct inspections and maintain recordkeeping in compliance with regulations (e.g., SPCC/SWPPP, thermal oxidizer/relief vent scrubber, TCE and greenhouse gas fugitive emission monitoring, etc.).
  • Provide regulatory interpretation to support plant personnel.
  • Participate in internal and external environmental audits (ISO 14001, LDEQ & EPA), and facilitate improvements derived from these audits.
  • Maintain approvals for disposal, including up-to-date and accurate laboratory analysis, and coordination of transportation and disposal of waste.
  • Improve the site Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program including reporting and coordination with the third-party sampling company.
  • Implement programs and systems as needed to comply with new regulations as directed by the Senior Regulatory Affairs Manager

 

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to translate experiences and ideas to a written format.
  • Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements to programs.
  • Ability to assess and understand regulatory requirements and implement corresponding programs.
  • Highly efficient, detail-oriented, has foresight, and is able to follow through on all aspects of a project.
  • Knowledge of the principals of solid and hazardous waste handling and disposal, understanding of relevant regulatory requirements and be D.O.T. qualified to offer these materials into commerce.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as this position will interact with technical department, operators, management, and peer groups.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • High standards of performance for regulatory compliance.
  • Highly motivated and independent.
  • Ability to develop networks to supplement own skill and experience when necessary
  • Open-mindedness, objectiveness.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to manage the overall programs, moving forward to achieve site goals, while addressing the day-to-day problems which arise.

 

 

     EDUCATION REQUIRED

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or Engineering or a related technical discipline

     EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Two to five years of environmental engineering/science work in an industrial setting
  • DEQ (Dept of Environment Quality) Experience
  • EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) Experience
  • Internal and External Aduit a plus
