We are currently looking for a Quality Technician to join our team at Hazlehead. If you want to make a difference and work for a purpose-led company, please read on.

 

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Technician will be responsible for playing a crucial role in ensuring that the clay products meet specified quality standards and comply with both internal and external requirements.

 

The role

 

  • Conduct regular inspections of raw clay materials and finished products to ensure they meet quality standards through mixing, tempering and extrusion of clay samples
  • Complete cross-departmental systems based internal auditing against business and accreditation requirements (Particularly ISO9001)
  • Conduct SPC analysis (Using Sigma Zone, Minitab or similar software) on crushing and sizing results following testing
  • Conduct Laboratory analysis on a range of ground clay samples, to determine: Particle Size Distribution (PSD) and residual chemistries, and on extruded samples to determine: Plasticity, Water Absorption (WABS), Moisture levels (LOD), Strength and firing properties
  • Conduct manual work in the Test House to handle a range of product sizes during production runs to set-up appropriate tests in line with BS EN-295
  • Work with associated departments to conduct RCA’s following internal / external complaints and issues where appropriate
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders on product and material development as required
  • Prepare detailed reports on inspection results and quality trends
  • Maintain accurate and organised records of test results, audits, and product specifications

 

 

The profile

 

  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Competence with units of measurement (Imperial and metric)
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to interpret and work from recognised standards (BS EN 295, ISO9001, ISO14001 etc.)
  • Be dynamic and flexible to work across different environments
  • Be able to work under pressure within a close-knit team to meet production testing requirements
  • Familiar with common measuring equipment (Diameter tapes, callipers, verniers, etc.) and understanding of calibration
  • A challenging, proactive nature to positively work with neighbouring departments
  • Previous laboratory and/or testing experience
  • Driving License (Given remoteness of site)
  • MS Office proficiency (Word and Excel as a minimum)
