MAIN PURPOSE

 

  • To execute Quality Control testing to ensure requirements for process control and product quality are satisfied. 
  • To execute small-scale blends supporting internal and customer development projects.
  • To execute 50L-200L scale blending operations as needed to achieve target shipping windows meeting customer expectations.
  • To support the design, development, installation, validation and improvement of analytical instruments, methods and technology.

To support the implementation of new and improved laboratory systems, processes and procedures.

 

 COMPLEXITY OF THE JOB

 

  • The QC/Production Hybrid is responsible for execution of testing to assess the product quality of raw materials received and produced at the electrolyte blending facility. 
  • This role is a hybrid in which the applicant must be capable of handling analytical testing responsibilities and small-scale production responsibilities.
  • Many sample preparations and analytical tests must be executed in an isolation chamber to maintain integrity of the sample and not generate false results.
  • The role is responsible for executing small-scale blending operations in support of development projects and small-scale customers below the 10kg batch size. 
  • The small-scale blends must be completed within an isolation chamber with closed transfers required to maintain integrity of the product.
  • The job holder will be responsible to support implementation of improvement projects in the QC lab involving introduction of new equipment, analytical techniques, or test methods.
  • This position’s tasks will be executed in a hazardous chemical environment where attention to detail is imperative for worker safety procedures.

 

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Accountability 1:

Execute analytical testing for raw material release and battery electrolyte product release

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately analyze and record results for samples submitted to the QC laboratory to ensure incoming materials and final product quality is controlled within agreed specifications and procedures.  The role will also be responsible for reviewing the analyses of other analysts as needed.
  • Carry out investigation into any abnormal results and report to production personnel, and/or the Quality Assurance Lead as appropriate.
  • Lead or support technical projects to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and/or compliance
  • of laboratory processes and procedures.
  • Work closely with production, technical, QA, and QC teams to understand production processes and analytical requirements to support problem-solving and/or improvement activities.

Accountability 2: 

Operate production equipment in support of commercial blending operations

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead execution of electrolyte blending operations in an isolator glove box using bench scale techniques.
  • Execute electrolyte blending operations in the 50L – 200L mixing equipment.  Including dispensing of raw materials out of an isolator glovebox, operation of 50L – 200L mixing equipment, monitoring automated material additions via flowmeter and executing manual material addtions through the top of the vessel. 
  • Clean electrolyte blending equipment and supplies.
  • Assist in packaging and shipping of completed electrolyte blends.

 

  1. EDUCATION

Minimum: Degree in Chemistry or related subject.  Relevant experience can be accepted in place of the education requirement.

 

  1. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

 

  • Knowledge from experience of working in a QC laboratory.
  • Knowledge of Analytical techniques and wet chemistry testing performed in the QC lab (KF, GC, IC, HPLC, ICP-OES).

Knowledge of equipment troubleshooting for instruments used in techniques listed above.

 

  1. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

 

  • 3 years’ experience of working in a Laboratory setting.
  • Experience with analytical assays for product characterization or release testing.
  • Experience executing small scale formulation projects a plus.

           Experience working in a chemical processing environment or pilot plant is a plus.
