Electrical Engineer

POSITION: Electrical Engineer – large projects 

GENERAL PURPOSE:

We seek a experienced electrical engineer to join our large capital project team on the US Gulf Coast. The electrical engineer is a member of the owner’s project team overseeing EPC execution of assigned project scope to ensure adherence to company engineering standards and meet project goals. The candidate will have strong knowledge and experience with electrical field engineering, including power generation and distribution systems, power transformers, medium and low voltage switchgear, motor control centers, and low-voltage systems such as instrument power supplies and lighting systems.

 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide electrical engineering expertise and know how at state-of-the-art levels in high voltage and medium voltage electrical systems and components to successfully complete the capital investment program consistent with company objectives and technical requirements during engineering/design, procurement/fabrication, construction, and pre-commissioning.
  • Responsible for advising the Engineering Manager, Construction Manager and Project Manager of deviations from electrical engineering, and/or installation standards, specifications, drawings, Industry codes and standards, and engineering practices and applicable procedures, as well as input to resolution of non-conformance.
  • Ensure technical quality, physical integrity and operational performance of electrical system designs, installations, and pre-commissioning activities.
  • Act as primary source of electrical design expertise and technical know-how for project engineering managers, engineering disciplines and with EPC firms.
  • Ensure excellent EPC contractor performance within electrical discipline, whether for engineering/design office or field.
  • Ensure company engineering standards & guidelines are incorporated into contractual requirements for FEED and for project execution.
  • Participate in and oversee power load studies and current trip hierarchy analyses and ensure results of same are properly implemented into the design of the facility.
  • Provide expertise to ensure effective monitoring and appraisal of contractor performance to ensure compliance with contractual requirements: quality assurance of engineering/design, procurement/fabrication, and installation and pre-commissioning.
  • Provide reports and communication to the Engineering Manager and Project Manager as directed to support project governance and to meet project performance goals.
  • Ensure project’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations and company standards.
  • Oversee and manage electrical engineering installation / pre-commissioning issues and difficulties, while offering solutions to those challenges throughout the life span of the capital investment program.

 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. degree in electrical engineering
  • 7+ years of electrical engineering & design experience at EPC firm or owner’s facility working on electrical power distribution design for large capital projects. Owner’s rep for managing EPC electrical is a plus.
  • Capital projects experience involving heavy modularization is desired.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Some domestic and global travel is required.
