Lead Data Privacy Counsel

 

Orbia is hiring for a Lead Data Privacy Counsel to be based at a remote location in the US or EMEA!

 

Job Summary/ Purpose

Orbia’s Lead Data Privacy Counsel is an experienced data privacy professional, responsible for oversight and management of Orbia’s global data privacy function. Reporting directly to the Chief Compliance Officer, the Data Privacy Counsel will collaborate closely with key stakeholders in Orbia’s six business groups to ensure compliance with data privacy laws. The Data Privacy Lead Counsel will leverage deep subject matter expertise in international data privacy laws, including the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) and newly enacted US laws, and be an expert in data privacy compliance program design and management, bringing a practical, collaborative, can-do attitude. 

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead Orbia’s global data privacy initiatives, serving as the lead resource for six business groups, working closely with Legal Department and Ethics & Compliance team members to provide advice and counsel on international data privacy regulations.
  • Evaluate the existing data protection framework, enhance policies and processes, including program documentation, leveraging a track-record of practical data privacy compliance implementation knowledge.
  • Conduct DPIAs and provide day to day data protection advice and support to business partners, including legal, sales, procurement, and marketing teams.
  • Coordinate, train and lead Orbia’s data privacy compliance network of data privacy professionals in the business groups, providing thought leadership on important topics.
  • Serve as a standing member of Information Security’s governance committees, partnering closely with the CISO and CISO team to mitigate risk of data breaches and enhance preparedness efforts.
  • Enhance Orbia’s record retention processes and procedures to ensure compliance with international law.
  • Oversee management of OneTrust software and ensure its usage across the organization.
  • Create training and communications to help the Ethics & Compliance team promote a culture of data protection compliance across all business groups.
  • Partner with IT, Information Security, Legal, Ethics & Compliance and the People Teams to review, enhance and implement data privacy policies, processes, and training.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • J.D. or legal degree from an accredited law school
  • Excellent verbal and written English communications skills; German, Spanish, or Portuguese is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related writing and presentation software.
  • Certifications that demonstrate data privacy, GDPR and CCPA expertise.

 

Knowledge/ Experience Required

  • Minimum of five years of data protection legal and compliance experience, with specific experience having implemented a GPDR-compliant data privacy program preferably in a complex, multinational corporation.
  • Subject matter expertise in European, US and international data protection laws and practices, including an in-depth understanding of GDPR and CCPA requirements.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and ability to implement procedures in a decentralized, matrix setting.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, create consensus among stakeholders, and manage sensitive and confidential information.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent judgment, great interpersonal skills and ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • In-depth knowledge on operating the OneTrust data privacy software tool.
