1. MAIN PURPOSE (Briefly state the job's overall objective)

The main purpose of a Lifecycle Engineer is to focus on Windows OS versioning is to ensure that all systems across the organization run on supported and standardized Windows operating system versions. This includes planning and coordinating version upgrades, aligning with business needs to schedule downtime, and ensuring compatibility with existing infrastructure, thereby maintaining system reliability and compliance with organizational standards.

 

 

2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

OS Version Lifecycle Management

 

Develop and maintain a roadmap for Windows OS version upgrades and deprecations.

Ensure all systems are running supported OS versions before the end-of-support deadlines.

 

Business Alignment

Collaborate with stakeholders to plan and schedule upgrades during appropriate maintenance windows to minimize disruption.

Communicate effectively with business units to align OS upgrades with operational priorities.

 

Testing and Compatibility

Coordinate testing of new OS versions to ensure compatibility with hardware, applications, and organizational requirements.

Address and resolve compatibility issues in collaboration with other IT teams.

 

End-of-Life Transition

Plan and execute migrations from end-of-life OS versions to supported versions.

Mitigate risks associated with legacy systems during transitions.

 

Outcomes:

Consistent and supported Windows OS versions across the organization.

Minimized business disruption during OS upgrades through effective planning and alignment.

Improved system performance, security, and compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.

Geographical Scope:
The role covers multiple regions (North America + Latam and EMEA / APAC), necessitating an understanding of regulatory environments, and cultural differences.

Influence on Others: The role involves mostly indirect influence. Indirect influence involves working with our Managed Service Provider, global teams, vendors, and other stakeholders to align efforts and achieve common objectives.

7. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LANGUAGE, & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (To perform satisfactorily in this job what type of knowledge and experience is required?)

  • Academic Level: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Language(s) and level of proficiency: English (fluent) and Spanish
  • Knowledge/Experience:
    Technical Knowledge
    • In-depth knowledge of network infrastructure technologies, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and network monitoring tools.
    • Proficiency in network protocols, such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF, and MPLS.
    • Familiarity with cloud networking and hybrid cloud environments, including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
    • Experience with managing and upgrading Windows Server and Windows Client editions (e.g., Server 2016, 2019, 2022, Windows 10, and 11).
    • Proficiency in managing Active Directory (AD), Group Policy Objects (GPOs), and user/computer configurations that impact OS deployment and functionality.
    • Experience with asset and configuration management systems (e.g., ServiceNow CMDB, Ivanti, or Lansweeper) to track OS versions and lifecycles.
    • Knowledge of monitoring tools to ensure OS version compliance and performance post-upgrade.

Communication Skills

  • Experience in managing relationships with MSP, vendors and suppliers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders (e.g., operations, finance, senior management).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to present technical information in a clear and concise manner to management and other stakeholders.

Relevant Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years infrastructure experience
  • Extensive experience working with and managing relationships with managed service partners.
  • Relevant certifications such as core Microsoft Certifications,  Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, CompTIA Server+
  • ITIL certification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with documentation, training, and support processes necessary for a smooth handover.
